Title: I'm Puppet in Your Hands, Chopin
Event: Circus of Dreams
Venue: Bizarre Bar
Date: March 2013
It has been a long time since I have been a regular part of the performance scene here in Brooklyn. I've been feeling drawn to it all over again, and maybe, hopefully, this time around I'm a little wiser.
I remember this performance: me, as a marionette, dancing to a slow, sad, sonata by Chopin. A piece about perfection will never be a real being we can hold in our arms.
Shout out to Jimmy Sparks, the puppeteer to my puppet being. Jimmy, get your head out of your ass and get back in the performance game, would you?
Title: The Twin Experience
Event: Figment Festival 2014
Venue: Governor's Island, New York
Date: June 2014
This photo was taken outside of my apartment on the way to Figment Festival 2014 on Governor's Island.
Sarah woke me up early in the morning after having read multiple articles about the lives of conjoined twins.
"Let's get dressed up as conjoined twins and go to Figment!" She said.
She was so excited about it that she had been up for hours, unable to fall back asleep.
This experience was interesting because it limited our movements and forced us to act together, yet many people didn't realize we were joined at the hip. We took a bus, a long walk, a ferry and a nap together.
We created a whole story for these sisters, whose mother went into labor while taking the copper out of an old factory.
We asked people "Would you like to experience a rose?" We brushed their faces with dried roses and misted them with rose water.
When we got home, the roses were gone. We finally split from each other and the sense of our separation was as real as the sudden air on my previously-conjoined skin.
